International Storytelling Championship : ウィキペディア英語版 | International Storytelling Championship
The International Storytelling Championship (ISC) is an event that is held every year for the finest young storytellers in the world. The competition rotates all around the world and is held annually usually during early spring. The art of storytelling has long been a part of many cultures. It was the primary method of telling the family history so that it would be carried on through the ages before writing. As a result, writing took over as the primary way to keep family history, and the art of storytelling seemed almost to disappear. Although, with the founding of the National Storytelling Network〔(storynet.org )〕 the popularity of storytelling has seen a resurgence. This is partly because more and more people are finding that storytelling is an excellent way to teach and captivate young students as well as adults. In addition, the National Storytelling Festival that was founded in 1973 has also brought new life to the community. This festival started out with only a few people and is now one of the main storytelling festivals in the country with almost 10,000 people attending. == History == The original competition was first held in the summer of 1989 led by the master story teller himself Professor Waldon at Purdue University. Originally, the competition was only a classroom exercise, and it was considered to be "International" for the sole purpose that there were students in the class from different countries in his class. However, the International Storytelling Championship soon evolved into campus wide event a few years later. It continued to grow as more and more people flocked to come and see the very extravagant performances. In 1995 four other major schools got involved Indiana University, Miami University, University of Indianapolis, and Ohio State University
